OTTAWA - Ever wonder how big the heart of a blue whale is? The largest animal to ever grace our planet is the focus of Whales Tohora, a visiting exhibit opening March 2nd, 2012 at the Canadian Museum of Nature.
Shane James, collections manager with the Museum of New Zealand, stands by a life-sized model of a blue whale's heart (top photo). Not only are they the largest animal ever, but they also have the planet's largest hearts, comparable in size to a compact car, and can tip the scales at 640 kg.
The exhibit runs until September 3rd, 2012. Please note, no photography allowed in this exhibition at the request of the lending institution, the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa.
