NWT looking to attract Quebeckers with job and lifestyle opportunities

MONTREAL — With average household incomes at $88,000 and 30-40,000 employment opportunities over the next 10 years, the Northwest Territories is targeting La Belle Province through the Come Make your Mark campaign in partnership with the Conseil de développement économique des Territoires du Nord-Ouest (CDÉNTO).

From March 16 to April 10, the Come Make Your Mark team of ambassadors are visiting Montreal, Trois-Rivières and Chicoutimi to draw attention to the numerous job opportunities and breathtaking landscapes in the Northwest Territories (NWT).

“The Northwest Territories has experienced strong growth in recent years. The economy has grown from $2.3 billion in 1999 to $5.4 billion in 2008, a $3-billion increase in less than 10 years,” said Jean-Francois Pitre, President of CDÉTNO.

Rich in natural resources, the Northwest Territories boasts countless lakes and rivers, as well as exceptional wildlife. It is among the last remaining unspoiled regions in the world, and with an area of 1,346,106 km2, it is more than twice the size of France. Home to four national parks, including Wood Buffalo National Park and Nahanni National Park, it’s also the best place in the world to observe the Northern Lights.

During their tour of Quebec, the ambassadors for Come Make Your Mark will invite people to come and meet them. Visitors will receive information about the geographic territory and the numerous career opportunities there. “Workers are needed in a wide range of sectors, from mining, oil and gas to tourism, manufacturing, construction, transportation, professional services and energy,” explained Élodie Bedouet, Innovation and Communication Analyst, CDÉTNO.

The ambassadors will take part in many activities over the coming weeks, where they will share their own stories about the quality of life, working conditions and the many outdoor activities available in the NWT:

  • March 21: Centre intégré de mécanique, de métallurgie et d’électricité (LaSalle)
  • March 22: École des métiers de la construction de Montréal
  • March 23: Construction day (Palais des congrès de Montréal)
  • March 24: Career day in mechanical and aerospace engineering (Polytechnique Montréal)
  • March 24 to 27: Trois-Rivières Book Fair
  • April 7 to 10: Chicoutimi Expo-Nature Fair

“The Northwest Territories offers vast resources for establishing, diversifying or advancing your career,” said Jean-Francois Pitre. “Our organization is always on the lookout for motivated, hard-working people who enjoy new challenges. We’re eager to tell Quebeckers our story about the Northwest Territories, our organization and the possibilities available to them.”

CDETNO was established to promote, stimulate and support economic development and employability to Francophones and Francophiles in the NWT.
