Celebrity Chef Michael Smith highlights PEI’s people, places and foods

Chef Michael Smith is at it again, bringing the tastes of PEI home to you in a new online web video series.

Famous for his "Chef at Home" and "Chef Abroad" television cooking shows, he is now showcasing island food, flavours, and cuisine right to your laptop.

Each weekly episode will alternate between “field” and “kitchen”. In the field, Michael visits potato farms, vegetable farms, beef farms, oyster beds, local markets, a vodka distillery or heads to sea aboard a lobster boat. In the kitchen, he transforms the ingredients he finds into simple dishes that anyone can make.

“Food Country is an online showcase of Prince Edward Island’s flavours, people and stories,” said Michael. “We’re showing the world what a special food destination we are, how food is woven into the tapestry of our culture and why we’re worth a special visit.”

Launching on Friday, January 7, 2011, on Food Country’s first episode, Michael visits Brookfield Gardens, a vegetable farm in the heart of Prince Edward Island where he finds carrots, broccoli, cauliflower and a surprising pig roast. The following Tuesday, the associated kitchen episode will air as he shows how to make Garlic Steamed Broccoli.

Take a look at Episode 1 (it's just under 10 minutes long). Enjoy, there are 24 episodes created for Food Country, and they can be found at www.foodcountry.ca
