A pilot program that focused on couple conflict, The Strengthening Families Program, is now being offered in Canada through the Calgary Counselling Centre.
The first of its kind in Canada, the program is available for couples who have experienced conflict in their intimate relationships and provides communication skills to help couples reduce conflict and restore and strengthen relationships.
"Relationship problems is the main reason why people seek our help and The Strengthening Families program is a very effective way to help couples" said Robbie Babins-Wagner, CEO of The Calgary Counselling Centre. "This program offer couples meaningful and long-term solutions to address conflict, strengthen relationships and help secure a better future for all involved".
"By working with both partners, this program addresses the issues from both individuals' perspective, making more effective and impactful changes", said Christine Berry, Director of Family Violence Prevention Initiatives, Wilson Centre for Domestic Abuse Studies at Calgary Counselling Centre.
"The Strengthening Families program is an important and worthwhile investment for the couples involved, their families and our community", added Babins-Wagner. "Investing time in a program like this can help prevent such tragedies as the recent Louie trial case. Events like this deeply affect not only families but our entire community."
The program is supported by the Alberta Government Safe Communities Innovation Fund whose goal is to find meaningful and long-term solutions to address crime in communities, and make them safer and stronger.
